Excelling in climate protection – MAN listed in the CDP index
What strategies do companies employ for climate protection and how successful are these measures? These questions were at the center of the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) Climate Leadership Conference in Munich. One special highlight on the day was the organization’s listing of MAN in the Climate Performance Leadership Index and through this its recognition of the Company’s particular commitment to environmental and climate protection.
But first people got talking: decision-makers in industry, the financial world, science and politics came together to discuss the latest findings of the CDP. The nonprofit organization regularly analyses the sustainability and climate strategies of international listed companies – among them MAN. When doing so, they focus on measures to control and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in particular.
MAN also attended the conference. Yvonne Benkert, Head of Corporate Responsibility at MAN SE, was on the podium to debate the issue of materiality requirements for sustainability management.
The eagerly awaited award ceremony for outstanding performance in climate protection was on the agenda for the evening and brought with it a success for MAN: the Company won the CDP analysts over with its efforts to implement the MAN Climate Strategy. With 97 points in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index and an A grade in the Climate Performance Leadership Index, MAN even secured a top spot in the “Industrials” sector in the CDP DACH 350 Climate Change Report 2014.
MAN is aiming to cut CO2 emissions at its production sites by a quarter compared with the base year 2008 by 2020. It has already made a step in the right direction: 2013 saw MAN save 77,000 tons of CO2 emissions which corresponds to a saving of 14% compared with 2008.
