MAN CR report 2016

MAN publishes 2017 CR Report

Responsibility along the value chain

The MAN Group has published its 2017 Corporate Responsibility Report. The main focal points of MAN’s CR activities lie on intelligent transportation solutions, climate-friendly production methods, and social commitments. A new area of focus for the MAN Group is taking responsibility in the supply chain.

Now as always, protecting our climate is of particular importance to MAN. The Company continues to drive the development of electrically powered commercial vehicles and is preparing to take up serial production of purely electric city buses and trucks. 2018 will see the first electric trucks going into practical trials. In terms of climate goals for the production process – a 25% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2020 – MAN has also made significant progress in 2017. Compared to 2008, the Company managed to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 23.7% in the year under review. An important contribution to this was made by the combined heat and power plant at the Munich site; up to 20% of all electricity requirements are produced on site.

Another focal point of the MAN Group is responsible procurement. “Focusing on our supply chain means that reporting is expanded by a significant aspect. We communicate clear requirements to our suppliers and work together on reducing ecological and social risks within the supply chain,” explains Peter Attin, Senior Vice President for Corporate Responsibility at MAN SE.

In order to further new ideas within the transportation sector, MAN has been supporting social startups since 2017, organizations which have made it their goal to overcome the challenges posed by global population growth and urbanization. The framework for this is formed by the MAN Impact Accelerator program, which MAN has initiated together with Yunus Social Business. Eight companies in Europe, India, and South Africa were approved for funding in the fall of 2017 after going through an intensive application process.

The MAN Group also continued its efforts toward the integration of refugees in 2017. 89 refugees were successfully integrated at MAN via entry-level qualifications, apprenticeships, internships, and full employment contracts.

Reporting takes places in two formats:

  • The MAN was generated in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI-G4). It shows how MAN implements the Ten Principles of corporate responsibility specified by the UN Global Compact.
  • The abridged version of the CR Report available online offers a brief overview of the performance indicators and CR-relevant activities from 2017.
