Efficient fleet management with MAN Solutions
Integration of various services for maximum customer benefits
Increase performance, cut costs: competition on international long-hauls especially is constantly increasing and demands that companies continuously improve their fleet management. Hauliers can rely not only on the dependable and particularly efficient trucks of the TG family, but also on a comprehensive portfolio of services from MAN Truck & Bus. MAN Solutions combines the service brands MAN Service, MAN Support, MAN Rental and MAN Finance into integrated transport solutions precisely matched to the individual needs of each and every customer. A MAN consultant will assist the customer in optimising the cost structure of his fleet and in guaranteeing maximum dependability while maintaining a high level of flexibility.
With MAN Solutions, customers are able to concentrate completely on their actual core business because, to mention just one example, professional MAN fleet management reduces customers' administrative effort to a minimum and ensures the smooth, efficient operation of the entire fleet of vehicles.
Thanks to flexible financial, maintenance and repair contracts, transport companies can minimise the risk of incalculable costs for fleet management. Nevertheless, they are not trapped by fixed rates should orders unexpectedly decline. MAN Solutions makes it possible for the monthly rates to remain flexible and for transport capacities to be easily adapted to seasonal order fluctuations.
Well-trained and motivated truck drivers are the A and O of successful fleet management. MAN Solutions provides the set of data for a fair and transparent incentive system through which you can significantly improve the performance and commitment of your drivers. Qualified driver training helps to ensure that vehicles are always driven safely and efficiently, which for the company means a smaller risk of accidents and a reduction in fuel costs.
Trucks must remain in movement, because being at a standstill means loss of earnings and angry customers. MAN Solutions provides replacement vehicles in a quick and uncomplicated way should a truck be involved in an accident or if it cannot be repaired quickly enough following a breakdown. To prevent trucks from breaking down in the first place, MAN Solutions offers the option of constant monitoring of the technical condition of the vehicle. As such, faults can be detected early on and the affected vehicles can be taken to a workshop for testing as a precautionary measure.
MAN TeleMatics® for economical vehicle operation and transparent logistics
- MAN TeleMatics® software in new design
- Different packages of services for every purpose
- Control fleets while on the go: the MAN TeleMatics® app
- MAN ProfiDrive® intensive telematics seminar makes fuel savings of up to ten percent possible
MAN TeleMatics® is the efficient solution for fleet control, fleet management and logistics. The system enables particularly economical vehicle operation and makes transport processes transparent. Dispatchers, fleet managers and drivers all benefit from the TeleMatics system: detailed information on where vehicles are located, the remaining driving times, servicing data as well as orders and trips result in fewer empty runs and less idle time. This gives the operator greater planning security and reduces administrative effort. In addition, the automated "over the air" download of tachometer data and driver card creates transparency. The analyses of driver and vehicle deployment can be retrieved at the touch of a button and enable an economical style of driving to be trained and achieved in a sustainable manner.
MAN TeleMatics® in new design
The redesign of the MAN TeleMatics® software has given the user interface a fresh, new, modern appearance. The operating concept makes it possible for the customer to operate the software more easily and intuitively. For example, the operating procedures have been adapted to the everyday work of the dispatcher/fleet manager. Functions that are important and used regularly can be accessed in just a few clicks using easy-to-remember icons. The new user interface simplifies fleet management and provides a quick and clear overview of the facts that are important for the user.
Efficient fleet management for all types of operation
The five MAN TeleMatics® service packages - Data Smart, Data Eco, Entry, Data and Dispo - offer tailor-made functions for every requirements profile. One of the most important functions within the MAN TeleMatics® software is vehicle deployment analysis (VDA). Vehicle deployment analysis provides the basic data for optimising consumption and operating costs. With the help of VDA, the deployment of both vehicle and driver over a defined period of time can be evaluated. The deployment analysis values are calculated on the basis of evaluation profiles. These profiles distinguish between vehicle ranges and type of deployment (long-distance transport, local transport, distribution transport) and are available as standard. When required, the haulier is able to create individual evaluation profiles and assign them to vehicles. The MAN TeleMatics® report indicates potential for improving the driving style at the touch of a button. The data relevant for an economical driving approach obtained from the deployment analysis is clearly presented and evaluated.
With the aid of service management, dispatchers and fleet managers are able to optimise resource planning and simultaneously increase vehicle availability. The service data sent back from the vehicles shows at a glance which vehicle must be scheduled for servicing when. The workshop is able to actively draw up an anticipated maintenance plan. In this way, on-line service management helps to reduce workshop stops considerably.
With "Tracking & tracing", the momentary positions of vehicles are shown on a digital map. The route of a trip is traceable at any time by analysing the messages received. Deployment history gives the dispatcher a detailed overview of operating and idle times, mileages and fuel consumption on the individual stages of routes.
Tachometer management provides information on the remaining driving time, which makes for added planning security and transparency. Moreover, mass-storage and driver-card data can be read out from the digital tachograph (DTCO), transmitted to the MAN TeleMatics® portal wirelessly throughout Europe independently of the vehicle's location, and archived. Even the transfer of the data into the existing evaluation software is possible.
In addition to the above, the Dispo service package offers further features, which, in conjunction with the MAN DriverPad® logistics device, add professional functionality to fleet management. Trips and orders can be processed with the aid of this logistics device. By clicking the current status, the driver transmits it to the dispatcher. Addresses for loading and unloading can be adopted directly by the integrated truck navigation system. This reduces the probability of error due to manual input. Standard and free text messages on the seven-inch display round off the options available for information exchange. Trailer management has been designed for equal ease of use. Integrated trailer management informs drivers which trailers have been hitched up or unhitched. The dispatcher in turn is always informed of which tractor/trailer combination is on the road and where.
Telematics that fit in your pocket
The free MAN TeleMatics® app expands the MAN TeleMatics® system by adding a mobile access. The program, which is available for iPhone and iPad, provides haulage companies with all relevant data quickly and in compact form, so that entire fleets can be managed with particular efficiency. For example, the app shows precisely where individual vehicles are currently located, thus enabling the operator to decide on the go which vehicles are available for orders. The user has an overview at all times of whether vehicles are technically sound and whether they are being driven economically. The MAN TeleMatics® smartphone app was distinguished with the iF Communication Design Award 2013 in the category "Mobile Application" for its exceptional information design.
Significant fuel savings thanks to intensive telematics seminar
In cooperation with MAN ProfiDrive®, MAN TeleMatics® is offering an intensive seminar on telematics. Decisive here is the holistic view that is taken of driver, vehicle and vehicle data. Professional MAN driving instructors convey an especially fuel-saving approach to driving in both theory and practice. The telematics data generated is also evaluated and analysed to ascertain where driving styles have potential for improvement. Seminar participants are then coached intensively in how to make their day-to-day driving more economical. In this way, completion of the economy training course can result in fuel savings of up to ten percent with the aid of telematics data - without the loss of any time on the route.
MAN Service for greater efficiency in the fleet
- Reliable, high-quality service: repair and maintenance contracts from MAN
- Sights set on the entire transport unit: MAN Service Complete
- Increase efficiency, ensure mobility: the MAN ServiceCard
Commercial vehicles from MAN are your reliable companion in the haulage business and master tough challenges day in, day out. Vehicle breakdowns are all the more annoying because they cost time and money. Accidents, breakdowns and improper maintenance are reasons for the truck ending up in a garage rather than at its scheduled destination. As a supplier of holistic transport solutions, MAN provides reliable support to its customers, also after the vehicle has been purchased. Tailor-made repair and maintenance contracts from MAN guarantee a long service life for the vehicle and minimise downtimes. Security against the uncertainties of day-to-day operation is something that is also offered by the MAN ServiceCard, which enables customers to improve efficiency and enhance mobility.
Higher levels of readiness for operation with service contracts from MAN
Proper maintenance and professional repair work increase the availability of a vehicle and prolong its service life. With repair and maintenance contracts from MAN, vehicle operators are always on the safe side: they can concentrate on their core business, while MAN deals with service. Depending on their requirements, customers can choose from four contracts offering various scopes of service. The Comfort service package comprises all regular servicing and includes, for example, the annual service plus oil change and replacement of filters. Also included in this package is the winter service. In addition to regular servicing, with the ComfortPlus contract MAN also deals with all statutory tests and inspections. The ComfortRepair package not only contains a service contract but also takes care of wear and tear repairs to the vehicle. The ComfortSuper contract is a real "don't worry" packager: it includes regular servicing with the statutorily required tests, wear and tear repairs to the engine, gearbox including clutch, chassis, steering gear and wheel suspension as well the brake and electrical systems. Moreover, the contract covers further services, such as the cost of towing, which will be borne by MAN up to an amount of €1,500. Additional services such as tyre service or the maintenance of bodies and attachments can optionally be added, depending on the type of contract.
With MAN service contracts, customers acquire financial-planning and accounting certainty and benefit from lower maintenance costs and greater operating reliability. Downtimes are minimised and personnel and management costs reduced. In addition, fuel consumption is reduced by means of optimal vehicle tuning. Added to which, professional MAN Service also increases the resale value of the vehicle because service and repairs are always carried out by specialists.
Service for the entire transport unit
In Service Complete, MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland GmbH offers customers complete servicing for the entire transport unit, i.e. vehicle and semitrailer or trailer and attachments. The scope comprises servicing, wear and tear repairs and work done under guarantee. Vehicle operators can rely on a comprehensive network of more than 150 MAN Service Complete outlets. All servicing work is done in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions using exclusively Genuine parts. Qualified personnel ensure that the work is done properly and to a very high standard of quality.
Thanks to the complete service, the repair and servicing of the entire transport unit can be carried out together during a single visit to the workshop. The expanded service competence of the MAN Service Complete outlets increases the level of readiness for operation of the customers' vehicles and decreases the downtimes of tractors and trailers. Moreover, the close-meshed network of Service outlets means that long trips to the workshop are a thing of the past and that less administrative effort is required.
Transparency and efficiency on the road with the MAN ServiceCard
MAN has joined forces with VW Leasing GmbH as the product provider to introduce the MAN ServiceCard in Germany. With its many functions, the fuel and service card not only ensures mobility but also enhances transparency in fleet management and increases fleet efficiency. As a universal means of payment it simplifies the day-to-day operation of vehicles, makes the complex exchange of currencies a thing of the past, and brings advantages in terms of interest and liquidity. With its extensive network of acceptance points independent of brand, the card ensures seamless service in 42 European countries plus unparalleled independence and flexibility. Not only that, but customers benefit from attractive terms to save money when refuelling. Alongside refuelling, the card can be used to pay tolls and fees for motorways, tunnels and bridges, for example.
The MAN ServiceCard also offers customers security against the uncertainties of day-to-day operations. In the event of a breakdown, it guarantees quick repair services around the clock via Mobile24, the MAN breakdown service for trucks and buses. Within the MAN Service network in Europe, maintenance and repair services, including spare parts, can be obtained quickly and easily on a cashless basis.
The settlement service, in combination with the online controlling and reporting system "FleetTRUCKS" ensures complete cost transparency for the entire fleet. All technical vehicle data, as well as all transactions settled using the MAN ServiceCard, are processed automatically in "FleetTRUCKS". This intelligent reporting tool saves fleet managers valuable time on evaluations and analyses. At the same time, they have a better overview of their fleets and greater transparency, allowing them to specifically control and, if necessary, to reduce costs. If desired, highly informative standard reports are sent regularly by e-mail to customers who want to process the movement data stored on their MAN ServiceCard in their own fleet management systems.
MAN EfficientLine - maximum transport efficiency even with Euro VI
Rising diesel prices, increased pressure from the competition and stricter environmental regulations pose major challenges to fleet operators. Customers must increase their commercial viability and reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). MAN has responded to customer needs and is offering the EfficientLine models for long-distance, as they are designed for fuel efficiency. The particularly environmentally-friendly trucks have convinced both the international trade press and customers. Thus the TGX EfficientLine already has numerous international awards to its credit. The market success is highlighted by the impressive sales figures: a total of more than 15,000 MAN EfficientLine vehicles in Euro V and Euro VI versions have been sold.
Efficient long-haul transport solutions save up to three litres of diesel fuel
MAN EfficientLine now provides substantial fuel savings even with Euro VI and reduces CO2 emissions. All efficiency-boosting features have been incorporated, so that the fuel consumption advantage will be retained in full. This means, for example, a reduction in consumption of up to 3 litres per 100 kilometres even for the TGX EfficientLine compliant with Euro VI, compared to a standard truck. Each TGX EfficientLine which replaces a conventional long-distance haulage truck, therefore saves up to 4,500 litres of diesel or 12 tonnes of CO2 per year. In addition to the basic model, a two-axle semi-trailer tractor with an XLX sized cab, there are TGS and TGX versions available with three axles, larger or smaller cabs and different suspension variants with EfficientLine packages. MAN also offers EfficientLine packages for use of the TGS in long-distance transport. From July 2013 onwards, the emergency braking assistance system, MAN Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), will also be available for the new EfficientLine models.
The new TGX EfficientLine compliant with Euro 6 is also equipped with MAN TeleMatics®, the efficient solution for fleet control, fleet management and logistics. The hardware is pre-installed. Customers can try out the Telematics software free of charge for four months and convince themselves of the advantages of cost-effective fleet utilisation and more transparent transport processes. The number of units is limited.
More efficient transport by means of optimum vehicle configuration
MAN EfficientLine stands for particularly efficient transportation, irrespective of whether the long haul truck TGX EfficientLine 4x2 is selected, or a vehicle is equipped with an EfficientLine package.
Since aerodynamic drag plays a significant role in fuel consumption, special attention was paid to optimal aerodynamic configuration of the vehicle. Accessories such as sun visors and compressed-air horns were omitted. Correct setting of the spoiler and the aerodynamic chassis cladding provide additional help in saving fuel. Setting the driving speed limiter to 85 km/h instead of 89 km/h reduces the rolling resistance by approx. 10%. In addition energy tires are used. These tires reduce rolling resistance and fuel consumption by virtue of their special material composition and type of structure.
The high increase in efficiency cannot however be obtained merely by improving individual components. It is rather the result of MAN's development competence when it comes to optimising the entire power train. The various components such as common-rail diesel engines, low-loss power train components and the intelligent gear-change strategy of the MAN TipMatic® are all matched to one another to form a perfectly coordinated unit. The alternator with 120 A has a four per cent higher energy efficiency and has a longer service life. Daytime driving lights require only about a quarter of the power of halogen dipped beams. The MAN Air-Pressure -Management (APM) turns the air compressor off automatically when it is not required, and thus decreases the loss of power in the compression of air. Compressed-air tank, fuel tank and wheel rims of aluminium all contribute to downscaling vehicle weight. However, an efficient driving style will also help to significantly reduce fuel consumption. This is why customers are given a MAN ProfiDrive® coupon upon purchasing a vehicle: Experienced MAN-specialists provide training in particularly economic and fuel efficient driving in one theory module and one practical module.
EURO-Leasing sets new telematics standards in the rental business
Telematics solution identifies savings potential in fleets and increases vehicle availability
EURO-Leasing GmbH, a unit of MAN Finance, presents an up-to-date telematics offering that is independent of manufacturer. This solution will be available from mid-July and will enable rental customers to ascertain savings potential in their fleets and take the necessary measures for improvement right away. Sales and Technology Director Marcus Burmeister has this to say: "Our telematics solution optimises the flow of information and customer service. Seamless vehicle monitoring not only reduces fuel costs but in a practically oriented manner also records cost drivers such as waiting times on the ramps during loading and unloading."
Moreover, route planning now allows for the improved coordination of workshop stops, meaning that idle times due to servicing and repair can be minimised or even avoided. This guarantees the highest levels of vehicle availability for hauliers, freight forwarders and logisticians, thus optimising their fleet management. The new offering comes in conjunction with uniform tariffs applicable throughout Europe, which can be flexibly activated and deactivated.
A further advantage of the new telematics solution is its ease of handling and operation. This begins with activation: when vehicles are rented, the customers receive an e-mail with an activation link and can immediately log into the newly designed MAN Rental/EURO-Leasing telematics portal, register and activate their vehicles. The individual vehicle data is then available within 24 hours. Activation and deactivation are both free of charge.
Burmeister adds: "The telematics fees are itemised separately in the monthly rental invoice. A great advantage for customers is that they can decide for themselves whether they want to make use of our telematics offering and if so, for how long (starting from a period of one month). This is completely independent of the rental agreement and without risk. In addition, they benefit from the six years of solid know-how that we have gathered in the field of telematics rental since 2007."
The data of the rental vehicles (motorised units/semi-trailers/trailers) can be accessed by the customer around the clock in the MAN Rental/EURO-Leasing portal, independent of manufacturer. Thanks to cooperation with the neutral telematics platform NIC-base, hauliers can if required also access the data on their entire fleets (all makes).
This comprises momentary vehicle locations as well as data from the electronic braking system (EBS), the refrigeration equipment and the vehicle management system (VMS). This means that all temperature data is continually monitored and recorded in compliance with statutory regulations. The telematics of the "Pharmaliner", the new, certified offering from MAN Rental/EURO-Leasing, ensures that the temperature is checked uninterruptedly (including anti-theft options and route monitoring) and thus meets all the requirements for certification for pharmaceutical transport acceptance. The default interval for notification is 15 minutes with shorter intervals possible if required.
The scope of service includes the following: data on the current location and the route of the trip, depicted on a digital map, data concerning temperatures and refrigeration equipment, information on speeds during each transmission cycle, information on the condition and energy consumption of the batteries as well as status messages concerning the semi-trailer's portal doors.
Active alarm messages result from the monitoring of geo-circles, the opening of doors, refrigeration equipment data (setpoint, operating mode, etc.), temperature sensors installed in the body of the vehicle and the coupling status (hitched/unhitched). In the framework of a vehicle list, all units can be administered at vehicle level, geo-circles set up and alarms activated/deactivated and assigned to groups of vehicles.
